A Summer of Moonshine and Music

Long before becoming a tourist destination, the Smoky Mountains were a haven for the makers and distributors of that illegal and highly potent brew known as moonshine. But, we’ve come a long way since those bad old days, and we are pleased to report that the art of making moonshine is now legit, and these legal distilleries have expanded their repertoire with such newly-created flavors as Apple Pie, Peach, and Lemon Drop joining the ranks of the traditional favorites of Corn Whiskey and White Lightnin’.

Too see the process for yourself, head over to Gatlinburg’s Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery. Check out our genuine copper still while sampling sips of genuine, 100-proof moonshine, and listening to real mountain music. Next, head over to the Old Smoky Distillery at the Island in Pigeon Forge for the Jars & Jams Concert Series. Ongoing through October, these free concerts offer fabulous musical entertainment from late spring until early fall. This season’s bluegrass, rock, and country band lineup includes such stellar artists as Sister Hazel on June 20, Luke Pell on June 26, and The Cleverlys on July 11.
