Shine for Your Valentine

Jar of Ole Smoky Moonshine

The moonshine of the past was an illegal libation made by quaint, and often dangerous, mountain folk, who brewed their “shinny” in carefully hidden, bubbling, copper stills. Downtown Gatlinburg today features two distilling companies that continue to use copper stills, but have taken making moonshine to an even higher level by producing “craft shine,” a wide variety of shine in delicious flavors. Both Sugarlands Distilling Company and Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery are popular tourist stops in the downtown area, and also sell their products online.

Stop by and taste for yourself the many unique and luscious flavors, such as Apple Pie, Sweet Tea, Hunch-Punch Lightnin’, Butterscotch, Huckleberry, Chocolate Cherry, Blackberry, and Strawberry. You can also pick up some Moonshine Cherries and Moonshine Peaches, and ask about seasonal and special flavors not available in stores. Both you and your valentine can take a tour of both distillers, taste a variety of samples, and enjoy hand-crafted shine cocktails. Sound like fun?
